Book your Accommodation Early!

The Sitges Fim Festival 2008 takes place from October 2nd to 12th. They say it's the numer 1 fantasy film festival in the world, so no doubt there'll be plenty of people in town, all looking for somewhere to stay. Who knows, we might spot some celebrities about town!

I was talking to Brian from the Apartment company and he did say that the town remains busy until mid October because of the festival, so it's important that all our guests book their accommodation early.

Check out the post on Accommodation for ideas on places to stay.

This years poster has a nice picture of our church with what may well be Uranus looming in the background!

Apartments and Hotels

Our wedding planner Elise from http://www.barcelonawedding.com/ went to Sitges last week to check out some apartments and hotels for us. (Thanks Elise!)

Apartments:

http://www.sitgesholidayaccommodation.com/
These apartments were her favourite option. The apartments she saw were really lovely, spacious, well decorated and well located. Many have terraces and some look straight out to the beach. All bookings with this company can be made over the internet or you can call Brian (English) or Ryan (Canadian).

When booking online, please put "Barcelona Wedding" in the comments section, and mention it when booking over the phone, so that they will know this is our wedding group staying with them. They have about 47 apartments on their books.

Most apartments should be no more than 10 minutes walk to the church or centre of Sitges. Apartments looking over the beach will obviously be priced higher than the rest.

It's still quite busy in Sitges at the end of September (there's a film festival this time of year), so book early to avoid disappointment!

Email: Follow the link on their site to fill out a contact form.

Hotels:
This hotel is arguably the best in Sitges. However, like much of the accommodation on the beach, the price is quite high. Midweek, it costs about Eur145 per night for a double room, and more again on the weekend. For reservations at the San Sebastian, contact me for an access code/IATA code which will mean you will receive the best possible tariff for your room bookings and a discount on any bar drinks during your stay. Follow the above link for booking. We have seen a couple of the rooms and they really are lovely. Ask for a beach view though!

El Xalet:
A really good budget option, especially if you like something a bit different. Rooms are basic but clean and nice. It is a period property built at the height of the Modernista movement, with all the original features from the period. The location is perfect, a minute's walk from the station, 5 minutes to the beach through the narrow winding streets.
It is great value for money: Eur55 per night for a single and Eur90 for a double. Don't stay here if you want the standard 4/5 star service but do stay here if you want a comfortable retreat, in the authentic style of the region, close to everything and at a very reasonable price. Reception staff are reportedly not very friendly but hey you get what you pay for!
I don't have a phone number for them, if anyone has got one, will you post it in the comments?

Parrots is a good basic option, quite gay so maybe not up everyone's street! It has recently been renovated to a high standard. Location is really excellent, a couple of blocks from the beach and beside all the action in Sitges. Stay here for location, service, cleanliness and cost. Don't stay here for room size, charm.

A double should cost about Eur80 per night.

I will post some more information about the hotels again. Check out reviews on Tripadvisor.com. If there's somewhere else you're thinking of staying, post a comment and let everyone else know. Shop around for the best prices. I quite like Venere.com.

Remember, most hotels in Sitges are within walking distance of all the action!

Getting to Sitges from Barcelona Airport

From Barcelona Airport (El Prat)

The easiest way to get
to Sitges is via Barcelona's Aeroport del Prat, which is about 20km from Sitges. From there your options are train, bus, taxi and rent a car.

By Train - Go through arrivals and follow the signs for the train station (Marked RENFE). You will see a long walkway that operates between Terminal A and B. Get on any of the trains and then get back off at the first stop, El Pratt de Llobregat station. Go up the escalator, turn left and then go immediately down the next escapator. Take the train that says "Vilanova G" on the front. Watch the signs and get off at the Sitges Stop. It takes about 20 minutes.
After 10.25 p.m. or 22.25 your only option is The Mon Bus which leaves between Terminal B & C. Or you could take a taxi...

By Bus - Personally, I'd prefer the train but apparently it's very easy to get to Sitges by bus. Take the 'Mon Bus' between terminal A and B. Journey time is 30 to 45 minutes. Monday to Friday the bus leaves 40 minutes past the hour, every hour and every two or three hours on the weekend. Check with the Barcelona Tourist Office at the airport: ( 0034) 93 478 4704

By Taxi. Taxi's are lined up outside the arrivals hall. It will cost at least EUR 60. You can take the "AutoPista" or "Por La Costa", the Motorway or via the cost road. The coast road will take 40 minutes, the motorway about 20 minutes.

I'll post again with directions for Rent a car, and directions from Reus

Aerlingus Flight Sale

Aerlinus are having a seat sale for European flights at the moment. Flights to Barcelona are €26 before taxes and charges, which works out at €100 per person return.

We would definitely recommend flying to Barcelona rather than Reus. Public transport is quick, easy and very cheap from Barcelona to Sitges.
